Chiropractic and Blood Pressure?

No doctor can directly affect heart function more than a Chiropractor!

A vertebral subluxation (bone misalignment) alters blood chemistry via the hypothalamus (part of the brain). When a man or woman is has spinal misalignment, they have an increased release of stress hormones, called catecholamines, which causes constantly increased sympathetic nervous system tone.

IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT INCREASED SYMPATHETIC TONE IS A MAJOR CAUSE OF CARDIOVASCULAR EVENTS AND DISEASE!

The chiropractic adjustment reduces sympathetic tone by influencing the nervous system via the hypothalamus, therefore impacting cardiovascular health! Make sure your loved ones also maintain their nervous system tone with consistent chiropractic care!

WHAT ABOUT BLOOD PRESSURE? IS THAT RELATED TO THE SPINE, TOO? OFTEN, IT IS…

A Chicago Tribune article in May 2007 reported that a one-time chiropractic adjustment of an upper neck bone (atlas), when misaligned, reduced high blood pressure.

When a Doctor of Chiropractic adjusted the top bone of the spine in 25 people with hypertension, their high blood pressure was reduced significantly—equal to taking two high blood pressure prescription medications at once.

The top vertebra, known as Atlas, or C1, lies high in the neck and is not anchored like other vertebrae, so it can easily slip out of alignment. It relies solely on muscles and ligaments to stay in place. The Atlas also can become displaced without pain, and often goes undetected. The area of the spinal cord that controls heart rate, blood pressure, hormone control, and healing, is located in the area of the Atlas, so Atlas misalignment can affect a myriad of body functions, including blood pressure.
